AdSysNet Password Manager - Components

AdSysNet Password Manager consists of two major components. This section describes about installing AdSysNet Password Manager and configuring its components.

The video explains about installing and configuring the AdSysNet Password Manager components.

The major components of AdSysNet Password Manager are,

  • Service component - It is the centralized and core component component, it processes all the requests.
  • Web component - Lets the Administrators to configure the security settings and view the audit.
  •                       - Lets the help desk admins to process the requests from users.
  •                       - Lets the users to reset password and submit requests to help desk admins.

AdSysNet Password Manager Installation

At first, AdSysNet Password Manager setup installs the installer application. Installer application provides the option to install and configure the password manager components.

  • Pre-requisites :
    • .NET Framework 4.0

Service Component - Install and Configure

Service component is the core and centralized component of AdSysNet Password Manager. It processes all the application settings, user requests and help desk approvals. Service component needs to be installed on only one workstation. All the client consoles such as Admin Console, Help Desk Console and User Web Console will connect to the same service component. Service Component can be installed from the installer in few mouse clicks.

After installing the service component, the service needs to be configured. Service component will create a windows service to process the requests from all the consoles. An available port is required to run the windows service. Once the service is started, the database needs to be configured, specify the database name without any extension.
Service component provides Service Controller application to monitor the service and database status.

Pre-requisites :
  • .NET Framework 4.0
  • SQL Server/SQL Express (Required for deployment only, trial version does not need this requirement)


Web Component - Install and Configure

Web Component is a simple client web interface which provides the graphical user interface to make requests to the AdSysNet Password Manager system. The web component consists of the following three parts,

  • User console
  • Help Desk console
  • Admin console
Pre-requisites :
  • .NET Framework 4.0
  • Internet Information Services (IIS) version 6.0 and later.

After installing the web component, the web service needs to be configured. To start the web service, a web site needs to be created on the web server (IIS). Once the website is configured successfully, the web service needs to be connected with the service component.

User Console

User Console lets the users to proceed the password reset, unlock, update profile actions and submitting the requests to corresponding help desk admins. Web console needs to be installed on a single workstation, all the users can access the web console through web browser using the correct web console url. User Web Console can be installed from installer in few mouse clicks.


Help Desk Console

Help Desk Console lets the Help Desk Administrators to process the requests from the permitted users. Also, Help Desk Administrators can perform password reset, unlock account, update profile for the permitted users when no requests made by the users. Help Desk Console can be installed from installer in few mouse clicks.

By default, all the members of Domain Admins group and the user managing the scope are allowed to access the Help Desk Console for managing the corrsponding domain scope.


Admin Console

Admin Console lets the Administrators to manage the scopes, configure the application settings. Admin Console provides the option to configure the settings that restricts the password reset and profile update features. Admin Console can be installed from the installer in few mouse clicks. Admin Console can be installed on all the Admin workstations who are responsible to manage AdSysNet Password Manager.

By default, All the members of Domain Admins group and the user managing the scope are allowed to access the Admin Console for managing the corrsponding domain scope. More or less Admins can be configured in Manage Domains interface.
